The Minns Labor Government is stepping in to get the new Cuttagee Bridge project back on track, after Bega Valley Shire Council voted to accept a new design for the bridge.
The new design will deliver a safer, more resilient and future-proofed connection across Cuttagee Lake, while incorporating heritage features that reflect the community’s strong connection to the bridge.
In 2023, the Minns Labor Government committed funding to Bega Valley Shire Council to rebuild Cuttagee Bridge, funding which was formally accepted by Council.
After the project stalled and the existing bridge fell into further disrepair, Transport for NSW has now committed to fully funding the delivery of the new Cuttagee Bridge under the direction of Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison.
The decision by Council means the project can now move forward, delivering a safer crossing for locals, visitors and businesses who rely on this important connection.
Dr Michael Holland said:
“Cuttagee Bridge is an important local connection and the community has been clear that it wants this project delivered.
“This is an important step forward for the Cuttagee community and everyone who has fought to see this bridge rebuilt.
“Bega Valley Shire Council has now voted to accept a new design that delivers a new bridge while incorporating heritage features important to the local community.
“I want to thank everyone who has shown their support and called for work to start on the new Cuttagee Bridge.
“There is more to do, but I’ll keep working with Premier Chris Minns, Transport for NSW and the local community to deliver the new Cuttagee Bridge.”
