I recognise Mrs Wendy Joy Cook of Kalaru, who has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for her outstanding service to animal welfare.

Wendy's contribution through the Far South Coast Branch of the Animal Welfare League NSW has been sustained and deeply valued. Since 2009 she has given her time as a volunteer, helping animals in need and supporting the people who care for them. She served as Welfare Officer from 2009 to 2010, and again from 2012 to 2023, taking on responsibilities that require patience, compassion and sound judgement. Animal welfare work often happens quietly. It involves early mornings, late nights, difficult decisions and many acts of kindness that most people never see.

Wendy's years of service show what can be achieved when dedication is matched with care for vulnerable animals and respect for the community. Her recognition also reflects the strength of local volunteering across the Bega Valley. Organisations like the Animal Welfare League rely on people like Wendy whose work keeps communities humane and connected.

I congratulate Wendy Cook on this well-deserved honour and thank her for her devotion to animal welfare on the Far South Coast.
