I am proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of athletes and volunteers from Special Olympics South Coast who have been selected to represent NSW at the 2026 Special Olympics Australia National Games in Melbourne.

Special Olympics Australia is part of a global movement that uses sport to create a more inclusive world for people with intellectual disability and autism. Special Olympics South Coast, which supports athletes from Nowra to the Victorian border, is run entirely by dedicated volunteers and currently supports 28 athletes across swimming, ten pin bowling, basketball, bocce and tennis.

The 2026 National Games will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics in Australia.

I congratulate Laurie Masterson and Heidi Jay of Moruya, selected for swimming; Elizabeth Godwin of Moruya and Jason Russell of Mollymook, selected for ten pin bowling; and Holly Levers of Callala Bay, selected for bocce.

I also acknowledge Karen Hawke, Kathy Godwin, Mark Levers and Karen Levers, who have been selected as Team NSW officials and support staff.

These selections reflect the talent, determination and community spirit that make our region so special. Good luck to athletes and volunteers as they proudly represent the South Coast and NSW in Melbourne.
