I would like to recognise Paula Brennan for her outstanding contribution to Aboriginal education and her commitment to fostering a culturally inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Through her leadership, the school has become a strong example of best practice in Aboriginal education. Paula has established meaningful initiatives such as the Umbarra Elders Program, welcoming Elders into the school each week to engage with students and strengthen cultural connection.
Her coordination of the annual NAIDOC celebration has grown into a significant whole-of-community event, opening the school to provide free, inclusive and engaging activities. She has also embedded Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum, including through Indigenous artwork and a dedicated arts program.
Paula works closely with organisations such as Katungul, Grand Pacific Health, Headspace and Campbell Page to ensure strong support pathways for Aboriginal students. The creation of an Aboriginal Learning Centre has further strengthened this support.
Her work has built lasting community connections, supported improved academic outcomes and increased Year 12 completion rates, while fostering greater understanding of Dhurga language.
I also acknowledge the contribution of her colleagues.
Paula Brennan is a highly deserving recipient of this recognition.
