I recognise an outstanding community initiative that is helping remove barriers to education and employment for young people on the Far South Coast.
The Narooma to Moruya TAFE Bus Pilot, developed by the Rotary Club of Narooma with Club Narooma, will provide reliable transport for school-based trainees and apprentices travelling between Narooma and Moruya TAFE.
For young people in Narooma, Dalmeny, Kianga, Bermagui, Tilba and nearby rural communities, limited public transport has made training hard to reach. The 84-kilometre daily round trip can be costly for families.
Operating during Term 4 of 2026 and Term 1 of 2027, the pilot could support up to 100 apprentices and trainees aged 15 to 24. It will help them pursue qualifications in building and construction, health care, hospitality, horticulture and other essential local industries.
This initiative recognises that transport is a link to education, employment and opportunity. Improving access to training, the project will support young people, families, local businesses and the future workforce of the Eurobodalla.
I commend the Rotary Club of Narooma, Club Narooma, project leader Ann Hegerty, and all volunteers and supporters who have helped bring this practical project to life.
