Congratulations to Mark Browne who has been awarded Volunteer of the Year in the SNSWLHD
Excellence Awards
Mark Browne's lived experience as a father who lost his son to suicide gives him a perspective
that no clinical training can replicate - and he has chosen to place that perspective in service of
systemic change.
Mark brings a depth of compassion to his role as an inaugural member of the Mental Health and
Alcohol & Other Drugs Consumer and Carer Advisory Group that is rare and profoundly
impactful.
Rather than allowing grief to become a barrier, Mark engages directly with the systems and
services that touch the lives of people experiencing mental health challenges across our region.
His willingness to sit at the table - to consult, contribute, and co-design - ensures that the
voices of those most affected by our services shape the care we provide.
Mark is an exceptional volunteer not only within Southern, but across his entire community.
Mark is simultaneously an inaugural member of our advisory group and an active volunteer with
the Rural Fire Service -two very different organisations united by his commitment to the people
of Southern NSW
