Janine is a highly respected wildlife volunteer whose compassion, resilience and steady leadership have made a lasting contribution to native animal welfare and regional communities across the Far South East for more than 25 years. As a dedicated member of WIRES Far South East Branch, Janine has been involved in over 4,100 native animal rescues, rehabilitations, releases and welfare interventions. Her work has been critical in supporting wildlife impacted by vehicle strikes, bushfires and other environmental emergencies affecting regional New South Wales. Janine is particularly valued for her calm and compassionate response in the most difficult situations. Since 2014, she has served as an authorised shooter for WIRES — one of the organisation's most challenging and essential roles. Her professionalism and empathy provide reassurance and support to carers, volunteers and community members during emotionally demanding circumstances. Janine has been a committed trainer and mentor since 2017. Having completed 28 training courses herself, she has delivered 17 macropod and wombat care courses, helping strengthen wildlife rescue capability across regional NSW. Janine has also held 17 volunteer leadership positions within WIRES, including Branch Chair and Emergency Response Team Leader. Her outstanding service exemplifies dedication, leadership and the spirit of community volunteerism.
