Celebrating a century of community, resilience, and youth empowerment, 1st Cobargo Scouts marks its centenary in 2026.
Since 1926, the group has provided generations of young people with hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and a welcoming place to grow beyond the classroom. Through decades of history—marked by closures, war, and rebuilding—the troop has remained a pillar of the South Coast community.
Central to the group's modern strength is 72-year-old District Leader Graham "Gramparr" Parr. Arriving in Cobargo over three decades ago, Graham restarted the disbanded troop and transformed it into a thriving regional powerhouse of over 70 members. Passionate about practical skills and inclusive mentoring, Graham has dedicated a third of the troop’s 100-year history to giving back to the movement that raised him.
Even when the devastating 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires destroyed his personal belongings and extensive collection of Scouting memorabilia, Graham's spirit remained unbroken. Supported by replacement badges and scarves sent by Scouts across Australia, he demonstrated the enduring bond of the global Scouting family.
As 1st Cobargo Scouts honours 100 years of adventure and service, Graham Parr’s steadfast dedication ensures the group’s legacy will continue inspiring future leaders for years to come.
