I recognise an important step forward for Batemans Bay with the completion of the pontoon extension and the installation of a disability mobility hoist on our waterfront.

These upgrades are about more than infrastructure. They are about access, inclusion, and ensuring that everyone—locals, visitors, people with disability, older residents, and families—can safely and confidently enjoy Batemans Bay’s waterways.

The pontoon extension strengthens the town’s role as a gateway to the region. It supports marine activity, tourism, and new opportunities for the local economy, while also ensuring the foreshore remains a shared public space for the whole community.

The disability hoist is a particularly important addition. It reflects a clear commitment to inclusive design and to removing practical barriers that too often prevent people from fully participating in community life. Access to the water should not depend on mobility.

This outcome reflects strong community advocacy and cooperation—between local businesses, community groups, council, and state agencies—working together.

I acknowledge Mr Charles Stuart, the Batemans Bay Business and Tourism Chamber, the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, and the Catalina Club for their hard work and persistence in the delivery of these developments.
